Free: July 10 at Spring Lake (New Jersey) Public Library
I am not sure how this happened, but my appearance this coming Monday evening at the Spring Lake (New Jersey) Public Library was never listed in Food Maven Appearances on my website. I hope in this case that I am "better late than never," although I do believe I have mentioned this event in this newsletter (and in the Maven's Diary).
Here's the story:
I will be doing my slide lecture based on "Arthur Schwartz's New York City Food: An opinionated history" at 7:30 p.m., but you should probably arrive closer to 7 -- to say hello to me and to claim a seat. The lecture covers the history of New York from the Lenape Indians to the mid 1980s. Told through the food and restaurant perspective, it is full of amusing stories and laughs. Well, I always hope so. And I show a variety of visuals: contemporary photos from the book, taken by award-winning photographer Chris Callis; old postcard images, old restaurant menus … you get the picture.
Although the lecture is free, the Spring Lake Public Library would like you to call ahead and register, just so they know how people are coming.
The phone number for the Spring Lake, New Jersey Public Library is 732-449-6654.
The address is 1501 Third Ave., Spring Lake
Again, the lecture is free. And I will also, of course, answer all those personal questions people keep asking me.
Before and after the lecture, both "Arthur Schwartz's New York City Food" and "Naples at Table: Cooking in Campania," will be available for purchase and autographing.
Hope to see you there. This is my last public appearance this summer.
